Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Doctor of Ministry Thesis-Project
Abstract: This project proposes that theocentric preaching is a valid and necessary approach to preparing and presenting biblical sermons. God is at the center of Scripture and must be at the center of every sermon. God's Word is not to be preached in an anthropocentric manner that focuses primarily on biblical characters as examples. Theocentric preaching welcomes a Christocentric focus, since Christ's redemptive work is the crucial interpretive tool for understanding the intent of biblical authors. Observing the larger context helps a preacher avoid atomistic misinterpretations. A preacher must discover, not invent, the relevance of a preaching text for those who hear.
